Can Android Phones Do Magnetic Wireless Charging Too? How Xiaomi, Huawei and OPPO Compare to Apple MagSafe

A lot of people still think magnetic wireless charging is an Apple-only thing. It is not. Since 2024, Chinese Android brands have quietly caught up, just through a different route: Apple builds magnets into the phone, while most Android flagships leave the phone bare and add magnets through an official magnetic case. Both snap and charge, the difference is mostly in convenience and price.

1. How do Chinese phones actually do magnetic charging?

There are roughly three camps. Native magnets, the hassle-free group: iPhone 12 through 17, Motorola Edge 70 Max, Google Pixel 10 Pro XL, Samsung Galaxy S26 series, they just stick and charge. Official magnetic case group, the mainstream Chinese approach: Huawei Pura 70 and Mate 60, OPPO Find X8, Xiaomi 15 and 17, the phone itself has no magnet, the case supplies the pull. And certified-but-not-native models that work fine with a magnetic case.

2. What wattage do Huawei, Xiaomi and OPPO really deliver?

This is the part everyone asks about. Huawei Pura 70 with the official case hits about 30W wireless, good for people already in the Huawei ecosystem. OPPO Find X8 goes further, 50W with the case. Xiaomi 15 and 17 sit around 30W with a case, while the Xiaomi 17 Ultra can do 80W wireless bare, but you need the official case for the magnetic experience, and the case thickness trims the speed a bit. Bottom line: Chinese magnetic setups today are mostly transitional, high bare-phone wattage, magnetic feel added by the case.

3. How is this different from Apple MagSafe and Qi2.2?

MagSafe is Apple's own magnetic standard, from 15W up to 25W on newer models. Qi2.2 is the open standard from the Wireless Power Consortium, 25W, with tighter magnetic alignment. Chinese phones using cases are essentially leaning into that same open Qi2 ecosystem. The upside: buy one Qi2.2 magnetic charger and it works with Apple, Samsung, Google and cased Chinese phones alike, no separate dock per brand. The downside: native magnets are not yet standard on Chinese phones, so the bare phone will not stick, you solve it with the case first.

4. What should a normal buyer pick?

If you are already on Huawei, Xiaomi or OPPO, do not switch phones for magnetic charging, just get the official case, Huawei 30W, OPPO 50W, plenty for daily top-ups. If your household mixes brands, go straight for a Qi2.2 certified magnetic pad or 3-in-1 stand, best compatibility. For the native-magnet crowd, iPhone, Pixel or Motorola Edge 70 Max are the no-thinking options. One last note: do not chase wattage alone, check for Qi2 or Qi2.2 certification and FOD foreign-object detection, safety matters more than the extra ten watts.
